(25,369 posts)be electable in a statewide race. And I love having him as my rep.
I also think that Lori Swanson would be a lot like Elizabeth Warren in protecting the people of MN and rooting out corruption.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(121,320 posts)and her House seat is safely blue. Lori Swanson would also be good. I'd rather keep Ellison in the 5th District - and I'm not sure he'd be a very strong candidate Up North in Colin Peterson's district.

(25,369 posts)he's going to. Then we need a strong person in the senate. I don't want some unelectable person handing our senate seat over to some knuckledragger.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(121,320 posts)if that happens he has to be replaced with someone who can win a statewide election. Why don't YOU care?

(28,514 posts)but if he does I just hope Dayton doesn't appoint someone as wishy washy as Amy.
If Al resigns, both Minnesota's senate seats will be on the ballot in November. Amy is up for reelection and there would be a contest to finish the remainder of Al's term. Then Al's seat would be up again in 2020.

I'm afraid we may get Senators Coleman and Emmer at this rate.

If Smith is appointed, however, state Sen. Michelle Fischbach, R-Paynesville, the president of the Senate, would become the lieutenant governor.
That in turn would set up a special election for Fischbachs Senate seat along with the seat being vacated by Sen. Dan Schoen, DFL-St. Paul Park, who recently announced his own resignation after allegations of sexual harassment.
The state Senate is currently controlled by Republicans by one vote, which means the DFL could take control if it holds the Schoen seat and flips the Fischbach district.

According to the same story, practically every office holder will clamor for the seat.
And with Klobuchar running for reelection, 2018 will be busy and, no doubt, a focus of attention by the Republicans.
