Teen charged after alleged threats to bring gun to St. Paul high school, start shooting

A 14-year-old boy made statements to other students Wednesday about his plan to bring a gun to his St. Paul high school Thursday and start shooting, the Ramsey County attorney’s office said Friday.

Police arrested the teen at Central High School on Wednesday and prosecutors charged him Friday with making threats of violence. The teen did not have access to guns, according to Sgt. Mike Ernster, a St. Paul police spokesman.

Two to three students overheard two other students at lunch talking about the teen and his plan, Ernster said. They said the teen had told them about his plans verbally and via social media messaging.

The students reported what they heard to the school principal about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Toya Stewart Downey, St. Paul Public Schools spokeswoman.
