Michigan Republican Party chair Kristina Karamo could be in trouble. Theres a growing likelihood Karamo could be removed as chair of the party less than a year into her tenure after a majority of the partys state committee skipped a Saturday meeting she convened to attend one organized by a group of discontented party leaders.
With only a minority of the state committee present for the chairs virtual meeting a planned protest had prompted their in-person venue to cancel Karamos meeting couldnt achieve the quorum required to conduct business.
Instead, a majority of the state committee gathered in Commerce Township without Karamo, who declined an invitation to attend their in-person alternative. It was a watershed moment for Karamos detractors, who say it shows theyve gained the momentum.

The split is the result of long-simmering dissatisfaction with Karamos leadership as the party limps toward a crucial presidential election year in a highly-competitive state with meager fundraising and perpetual infighting. Karamo didnt return an interview request from MLive.
