Michigan judge denies Trump's request to throw out lawsuit that would keep him off ballot

“A Court of Claims judge on Wednesday denied former President Donald Trump's request to dismiss a lawsuit aimed at keeping him off the Michigan ballot next year.

In an order signed Wednesday, Court of Claims Judge James Robert Redford not only denied the request but also rejected Trump's motion to be party to the lawsuit. The judge said Trump's lawyers didn't indicate in their motion last week why it would be proper to let him be part of the lawsuit or how the court — with its limited jurisdiction involving state employees and agencies — could allow him to do so.

Trump, the judge wrote, "does not fall within the definition of 'the state or any of its departments or officers,'" in denying both the motion and the request for dismissal...”
