In 1974 the 4 of us canoed that river. We put in at Ishpeming and when we got to those falls, we figured we could tie lines to the front and back of my friends canoe and track it through. We couldn't and lost his boat as it got caught on a large boulder and was bent in half. We portage my boat around and let him and the other guy paddle down to the next bridge while we hitched hike back to Ishpeming and got my truck. We then picked those two up and our trip was over.
We were amazed at the power of the water. It looked do able, but wasn't. What sad out come she had.
