COVID-19 was listed as a contributory cause of her death, which was blamed on hypoxic schemic encephalopathy and related complications.
Gibbs, 48, gained notoriety after she attended the "Operation Gridlock" rally last spring outside the state Capitol where hundreds gathered to protest Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's extension of her stay-at-home order to stem the spread of COVID-19. Gibbs was seen on TV without a face mask and not keeping social distance at the rally.

(51,796 posts)At her sentencing, Gibbs said she was "extremely remorseful," was under an undue amount of stress and apologized to the citizens of Royal Oak.
In an earlier statement, she said: "I obviously was not thinking clearly, and I take full responsibility for my actions. Recently, I had to choose between insulin and food, and I chose the insulin, which helps me stay alive."
Gibbs, a first term city commissioner, at the time of her death was a Republican candidate for Oakland County Board of Commissioners,
