Detroit Tigers' Daniel Norris wants players to hear his message after contracting COVID-19

On Wednesday night, as teammates connected the dots of Daniel Norris’ absence at summer camp, the Detroit Tigers left-hander sent a group text to the team.

“Hey guys, No. 1, I miss you guys like crazy, I wish I was there, I wish we were all hanging out in the clubhouse having coffee,” Norris said, “But No. 2, take it seriously. Young guys, try not to go out to eat, just stay smart. Sacrifice 2½ months out of this year to be vigilant about it. That’s what’s required — that’s the only way this is going to work.”

Norris knows better than most. In the middle of June, after working out in the morning at the Tigers’ spring training complex in Lakeland, Florida, he took the two-hour drive east to Cocoa Beach for a sunset surf and drove back to his spring home in Tampa in damp board shorts.

“I felt sickish but I didn’t think much of it, then for like five days, I would wake up in the middle of the night and get out of bed and I’d be dropping sweat off my fingertips, like down my forearms, off my fingertips,” Norris said.

“It was crazy and I was just like, ‘Holy crap,’ and I would get out of bed in the morning and I’d walk to my kitchen and make coffee and I literally felt like I was 75-80 years old, like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is crazy.’”

On June 23, Norris tested positive for the coronavirus. He is unsure how he got it — “I was definitely taking it seriously, wearing my mask” — but Florida recently became a hot-spot for the virus.

After five days of body aches and night sweats — Norris said he did not experience any headaches or fevers, like others have reported in symptoms — he returned to full strength.

1. I can't figure the night sweats without fever but it is good to hear one person only 5 days. Lol.

Most all I read about their experience it is not five days then full strength, so that does happen. Good to hear. Still not something I want.

2. I know two people who got sick like this but one person who ended up on a ventilator

And who did get off the ventilator (which a lot do not) but who is still having a ton of horrible health problems he might never recover from. This person was the youngest and healthiest of the three.

It's something that can make you sick for a while, or make you dangerously ill. You can't tell what will happen.

3. Talking to both sons yesterday, we decide nope for me. Lol. Looking to beginning of year and then

assessing cause what you say lol and I do not want it. No guilt staying home. Totally justified and smart.

4. That young man, at 30 that says, I made a mistake, and then died has stayed with me. Trump did that.

Absolutely, Trump did that one. Republicans did that one. His Gov in Tx did that one. The people around him, the loved ones in Texas did that.

I thought it was a hoax.

No one in my family thinks it is an hoax, take it seriously and my sons are into getting facts. Liberals too so they are not fighting that toxic masculinity stuff. They do not feel like wimps wearing their awesome masks in saving old people's lives. And stupid 30 yr olds that listen to Republicans.

This is on them.

There should be that conversation on an ad.

5. Thom Hartmann today was talking about relatively young people

who have been sick for 90 days. Also he listed some of the young people that have died. We still have much to learn. But what we know is enough to scare shit out of me.
