BREAKING: Detroit will be one of the first U.S. cities to get rapid coronavirus testing machines from Abbott Labs (just recently approved by FDA). Detroit to get 5 machines, for 5,000 testing samples. Up and running within a week, Duggan says

These tests, Duggan says, are "so sensitive that you can give it almost instantly after exposure." For first responders and health care providers

It is my understanding that the test runs on Abbott's ID-Now M2000 machine which are already in use at 175 locations. UVa Medical System has had them for a while. The machines have been approved for a long while. This test is what's new and gotten an emergency approval.

I guess that Detroit is getting 5 machines, but they are already existing technology. It is the test that is new.
