Related: About this forumWell... my youngest cousin just died from the cursed virus...
He was a bit of a lost soul until about 10 years ago when he turned his life around. Now this.
Whilst he suffered from alcohol addiction in his past, he was an adventurer and spent many years up in Alaska.
The details are still sketchy, but it appears that he was in hospital regarding issues with his liver (Not surprising). But while there, he was infected with the virus. They moved him into ICU, but he was not strong enough to fight it.
Our emergency care teams MUST have the necessary protective gear - not only for themselves, but also for those they care for.
His death is on Trump's and every Republican's hands.
For me, I'm here in the UK - comforted by my isolation here in a currently sleepy Cotswolds town. While my hometown of Detroit seems to be hit very hard.
As to my cousin Rex - May he cherish his final voyage on the family Moki...
(I'm not usually one to express emotion openly, but right now I'm rather pissed off - thanks for listening)
EDIT: Thank you to everyone who has passed on their thoughts. When I respond to one of you, I am responding to ALL! Thank you!

(305,435 posts)we lost our sister the day after Christmas in San Diego.. shockingly. She was in rehab recovering from a fractured hip. She was in there so long and feeling worse and worse and they said it was pneumonia.. but now a couple of her friends and another sister are wondering if it was the CV.
I don't know but just know it helps to talk about our loss.. it's great comfort.

Grief takes many forms. Mine at the moment is absolute anger at the human stain currently infesting the White House.

(9,426 posts)You are certainly in a nice place, the Cotswolds. My father always wanted to retire there. He originally wanted to buy a pub there, but my mother said he would drink all the profits, so no chance. Glad your cousin fought his demons and won, so he experienced a sober life for several years. I blame tRump for this epidemic, too. So much more could have been done, if only we had intelligent, caring people in the top offices in this country. Instead we are saddled with the DREGS, starting at the "top". Too many decent people are losing their lives to this.

(1,866 posts)The surreal part of this whole affair is that I am unable to return to the states for any memorial due to general travel restrictions.
Life will need to rebalance in many ways once this has passed...

(6,270 posts)most of the survivors knew someone who had perished. Be it father, mother, son, daughter, cousin, neighbor . . .
Is this the new reality the world will face in the future?
To those who have experienced it, the personal pain of suddenly losing someone you knew brings the reality home. The feelings cannot be described to someone who has not gone through the same.
Thanks for sharing Layzeebeaver. May this be the only loss you suffer in these trying times.
Be careful, be safe out there, all of you.

(5,779 posts)You are not alone in your anger. The GOP has blood on its hands, and some how there will need to be accountability.

(4,108 posts)I just found out a friend's mother passed a couple of days ago. Not sure if it was CV, but I can assume.
This thing will touch all of us, and I believe we can all blame the GOP the deaths of our loved ones. They are murderers in my opinion, and should be punished with more than just losing their jobs (though that should be the FIRST thing).
BTW, I fully concur with your sig line. I feel exactly the same way.
