Invasive lady beetles are crawling inside. Here are a few ways to combat them

(Detroit Free Press) Small red or orange beetles with spots have been giving ladybugs a bad rap for the havoc they've been giving Michigan residents ahead of winter.

As cold weather approaches, the Asian beetles, an invasive species often confused for the native ladybugs, seek out places to overwinter. Too often for most homeowners, that means they're crawling inside where they buzz around, walk across the ceiling or walls and, generally, annoy us.

The multicolored Asian lady beetle, a native of Asia can appear red, orange or tan and usually has a black "M" or "W" shaped marking on the white area behind their heads, while ladybugs lack that marking, according to Michigan State University.

Both ladybugs and Asian beetles hibernate during winter and reappear in the spring, making fall a common time for infestations and mix-up of the two species. .................(more)

1. I hate them nearly as much as I hate stink bugs

I've been restaining the outside of the cabin, and battling those things and wasps. They land all over you, and they pinch, I guess you'd call it. Not a bite exactly, but damned annoying, especially when you're up on a ladder.

We've never seen this many before.
