Troy clerk's office urges residents to beware following spam ballot texts

If you live in Troy, check twice before answering a text about your ballot this election cycle.

Voters recently received spam text messages about ballots, falsely claiming to be from the City of Troy Clerk's Office, according to the city clerk's office. In light of the issue, the office is reminding the public that it doesn't communicate with residents via text.

Are you registered to vote? Here's how to check.

The Troy city clerk's office uses several methods for official correspondence, including online, via mail and telephone.

Phone calls or voicemails from 248-524-3316 or 248-524-3317. Be aware the city doesn't cold call residents.
Emails from @troymi.gov email addresses.
Faxes from 248-524-1770.
Mail from 500 W. Big Beaver Road, Troy MI 48084. Mail will feature a city seal, city logo or official election mail logo.
Online voter information.
