Wayne County superintendents urge voters to renew regional school millage in November
Five superintendents from across Wayne County came together Tuesday to implore voters to approve a Nov. 5 renewal request for a countywide school enhancement millage they say is critical to supporting students, teachers and families.
Daveda Colbert, superintendent of the Wayne Regional Educational Service Agency, hosted an online roundtable along with four local superintendents to discuss a renewal request on the ballot this fall that provides supplemental funding to all 33 local school districts and at least 90 eligible charter schools across Wayne County.
School districts are already funded through the state and receive federal funds as well as some local dollars generated through local district millages. Wayne County voters first approved the regional enhancement millage in 2016 and renewed it in 2020.
Districts leaders say they have used the money to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, improve school security, expand special education services and hire more social workers and counselors.
