Allendale voters reject $88.2 million school bond for athletic, educational upgrades
ALLENDALE, MI- Allendale Public Schools voters rejected a 30-year, $88.2 million bond in the Aug. 6 election that would have expanded athletic and educational opportunities and addressed space constraints.
The bond failed by a vote of 2,206 (51.8%) to 2,049 (48.2%), according to unofficial results from the Ottawa County Clerks Office.
Allendale Superintendent Garth Cooper said the proposed new field house and expansion of the Early Childhood Center to accommodate growth and other improvements could have been done with a zero tax-rate increase.
The estimated millage that would have been levied for the proposed bonds in 2025 is 2.04 mills ($2.04 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a 0-mill net increase over the prior year’s levy, according to the ballot proposal.
