Far-right Ottawa Impact group loses county board majority in Aug. 6 election
OTTAWA COUNTY, MI In a hectic night for voters watching Ottawa County primary election results roll in, the ultra-conservative group Ottawa Impact has lost its majority on the county board of commissioners.
The Ottawa County election results webpage crashed around 9:20 p.m. due to a large influx of visitors, according to the clerks office. From that point onward, the websites functionality was spotty, often displaying errors for voters checking in on races, but fully came back online around 10:45 p.m.
As results rolled in, it became clear that even if all the Ottawa Impact candidates who won their primaries win in the general election in November, the group will still have at most four of the 11 seats on the board of commissioners.
Both Ottawa Impact co-founders Joe Moss and Sylvia Rhodea won their Republican primaries in District 5 and 8, respectively, along with Ottawa Impact members Allison Miedema in District 11 and Kendra Wenzel in District 6.
