East Grand Rapids seeking 2-mill levy for road, sidewalk improvements on August ballot

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Voters in East Grand Rapids are being asked to approve a 2-mill levy to fund the improvement and construction of roads, sidewalks, storm drains and right of ways.

The millage proposal on the Aug. 6 election ballot would renew a millage passed in 2015 that expired in May with the 2024 levy. That original millage of 2 mills was reduced to 1.7307 mills because of the Headlee Amendment.

Headlee requires a local government to reduce its millage when annual growth on existing property is greater than the rate of inflation. The proposed millage would restore the 0.2693 mill lost to Headlee reductions.

The proposal would cost property owners $2 for every $1,000 of taxable value for 10 years, from 2025 through 2034.
