Challenger (D) takes on Ypsilanti City Council incumbent (D) in August election
YPSILANTI, MI - An Ypsilanti City Council member faces one challenger in the August primary election.
Amber Fellows is taking on incumbent Evan Sweet to represent Ypsilantis 3rd Ward on City Council in the Aug. 6 Democratic primary.
Sweet was appointed in 2022 to fill a short-term vacancy and reappointed in January 2023 to complete the term of former Council Member Annie Somerville, who departed after being elected to the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners. City leaders picked Sweet out of four candidates, including Fellows, who put forward their names to fill the vacancy.
Fellows has previously served as chair of the citys Human Relations Commission and a commissioner on the Housing Affordability & Accessibility Subcommittee. She also chaired the Community Benefits Agreement Committee for the Dorsey Estates affordable housing development.
