Michigan
Related: About this forumParts of Genesee County, Michigan got over 5" of rain.
Grand Blanc, who had a tornado back in February, and Burton, both just south of Flint, are also both are in the 5+ inches of rain category. The area where I live received between 2 and 3". After looking at the path of this storm, I kind of figured that since we seemed on the outside edge, we'd get spared the deluge.
Regardless, there is LOTS of flooding and power outages throughout the county.
I'm about to pull on my wellies and head out to my back yard to feed the ferals. A couple of hours ago the water stood several inches deep. Now it has, for the most part drained. I have checked on them, throughout the storm. Some are a little damp but they all found someplace to shelter out of the wind and downpour of rain.
It's been a day full of worry about some many things. I can't even express how relieved I am to have this weather finally leaving the area, that my sump pump was able to handle the onrush of incoming water, and that my electricity never even blinked.
I might just feed the kidcats, feed myself, and then go to bed.

(27,293 posts)It was scary because if the pump would have failed, there would be no way I could ever keep up, trying to bail out the water.
After the big flood, back in the mid 1970's, my Dad always had 2 sump pumps in the sump hole. one running and one that he could easily switch on, should it be needed. He also installed floor to ceiling stand pipes in all of the basement floor drains so that if that kind of flooding ever happened again, the water would rise to its level in the pipe, instead of throughout the basement. He got a lot of press for that idea. My Dad was a very clever and resourceful guy.

(10,790 posts)The garage flooded. I had to dig diversion channels to 25 gallon dry wells. Saved the garage.
Work smartly.
