Delta County board approves ballot language for veteran's millage

DELTA COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - A millage to fund a department of veteran’s affairs is set to appear on the November ballot in Delta County.

Delta County commissioners unanimously approved ballot language for the new millage at Tuesday night’s board meeting. If it passes, the millage will fund “equipping, staffing, maintaining and operating a County Department of Veterans Affairs to provide support and assistance services to all qualified veterans, their eligible spouses and families.”

The board voted to place the millage initiative on the ballot in April. The county is asking voters to approve one-tenth of a mill or $100 for every $100,000 of assessed property value.

“We have a huge veteran demographic,” Commissioner Matt Jensen said. “It’s twice the state average here in Delta County, so we have one veteran’s service officer for a lot of veterans.”
