Outrage could hike reward in dog slays

...“Because we have received quite a few calls from people expressing a desire and offering a pledge to contribute money, it is possible we will increase the reward offer,” said Peter Gollub, director of law enforcement for the MSPCA, which is currently offering a $1,000 reward. “The final determination hasn’t been made.”

The animal welfare agency is investigating the killings of two dogs — a golden retriever and a chihuahua that were found shot in a New Bedford industrial park on Feb. 13.

...The dogs had no injuries beyond the fatal gunshot wounds, said Dr. Gerald Pietsch of Anchor Animal Hospital in Dartmouth, where the dogs’ bodies were brought after the gruesome discovery....

It's getting a lot of play in the regional news. No one can figure out why anyone would do such a thing.
