Markey collects endorsements from progressive groups, environmental groups and unions.

It has been a good week for Congressman Markey when it comes to endorsements.

He already had Sierra Club, LCV, NARAL, ASFCME, teachers unions, and most of the Democratic leadership in MA.

He is adding to these endorsements support from SEIU, PPP, and 350.

The Massachusetts Service Employees International Union endorsed Rep. Edward Markey (D) for Senate on Thursday, adding another union group to the handful he's snagged away from Rep. Stephen Lynch (D).
“Ed Markey will be a strong advocate for working families in Massachusetts,” said Cliff Cohn, chairman of the SEIU Massachusetts State Council, in a press release.

“On immigration reform, health care, the federal budget and other issues important to the 85,000 SEIU members statewide, Ed Markey will stand up for the people of Massachusetts in the Senate.”

Planned Parenthood endorses Ed Markey's U.S. Senate bid in Massachusetts

U.S. Rep. Edward Markey's Senate campaign was endorsed by an abortion rights group on Wednesday, as he aims to defeat fellow Congressman Stephen Lynch in the Democratic primary ahead of the special Senate election.

The Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the political wing of the organization, said that Markey received a 100 percent ranking from the group for his voting record on women's issues and abortion rights.

“We are pleased to stand with the Planned Parenthood Action Fund in support of Congressman Markey, who is unwavering in his support for women’s health,” said Martha Walz, president of the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts, in a statement. "Massachusetts voters are proud of our long history of electing U.S. Senators who put smart policies ahead of political ideologies and who will not compromise on women’s access to health care. We must carry on that tradition and elect Congressman Markey."

Climate change group supports Ed Markey, cites his opposition to Keystone XL pipeline

The international grassroots advocacy group 350.org, which focuses on fighting climate change, has endorsed a candidate for the first time - Massachusetts Democratic Senate candidate Edward Markey.

The political wing of 350.org, 350 Action, said the group is supporting Markey, a U.S. representative and ranking member of the House Natural Resources Committee, because of his opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline.

“Rep. Markey is the only candidate in this race who is taking a principled stand on the dangerous Keystone XL tar sands pipeline,” said 350 Action Executive Director May Boeve in a statement. “In Congress, each candidate had his shot at opposing this boondoggle of a project, which, if approved, would mean more pollution, more oil spills, and more huge profits for big oil. Only one candidate did what was right and said no.”

Add DFA\ to this, which joins Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts and http://www.paramuspost.com/article.php/20130308154835186MOve On.

Most of these endorsements were expected, as Markey is much better liked than Lynch by these organisms, but it is still a good list of endorsements.

Lynch, for his part, got endorsements from more than 40 trade unions, and from moderate democrats in the state, support that should not be ignored either, but clearly, who endorses Markey pretty much reflects why I support him and not Lynch (at least in this primary season)
