Rep. Joe Kennedy responds to Sen. Ed Markeys Nov. 10 climate debate Twitter announcement, says negotiations on date are ongoing
Despite Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markeys Thursday night Twitter announcement of a climate debate on Nov. 10, the incumbents top Democratic primary rival, U.S. Rep Joe Kennedy, says negotiations arent complete on when the debate will be held.
The campaign on Friday afternoon reiterated that the congressman, who entered the race last month, was committed to joining Markey and labor attorney Shannon Liss-Riordan in a debate on climate change. But the campaign added that Kennedy wanted to negotiate in good faith with the other campaigns on a date and venue that works for everyone, with a preference for a debate early next year.
As we have said, the congressman strongly believes this particular debate should be held in a frontline community most impacted by our countrys climate failures, campaign spokeswoman Emily Kaufman said Friday. He also believes a 2020 date will ensure better voter attention on this critical issue, rather than the middle of Veterans Day weekend."
Markey on Thursday night tweeted that Stonehill College had invited the candidates for a climate debate on Sunday, Nov. 10. He noted that the recent Democratic presidential debate sponsored by CNN and The New York Times featured zero questions on climate change.
