More than 2,000 license suspensions issued as part of Massachusetts RMV review

Massachusetts transportation officials have issued more than 2,000 license suspensions while clearing a backlog of notifications of out-of-state violations.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is undergoing a major review of the Registry of Motor Vehicles after the agency failed to suspend the license of a Volodymyr Zhukovskyy, who was involved in a crash that killed seven motorcycle riders in New Hampshire.

After the crash, RMV officials discovered that his license should have been suspended due to an OUI arrest and refusal to take a chemical test in Connecticut.

State officials found the Massachusetts RMV had been ignoring mailed notices of out-of-state violations, as well as manual notifications from a national computer database of commercial licenses.
