Democratic gubernatorial candidate Setti Warren wants to create 2 cabinet-level positions for veterans, elder affairs in MA
SPRINGFIELD -- Democratic gubernatorial candidate Setti Warren announced Wednesday that he will pursue the creation of two new cabinet-level positions to oversee elder, veterans and military family-related affairs in Massachusetts, if sent to Beacon Hill next November.
Warren, an Iraq War veteran and the outgoing mayor of Newton, unveiled his campaign proposal alongside fellow veteran and Northampton Mayor David Narkewicz during an afternoon stop outside of City Hall in Springfield.
The Democrat, who is among three vying to challenge incumbent Republican Charlie Baker, said the proposed positions -- a secretary of veterans and military families and a secretary of elder affairs -- are needed to ensure veterans and seniors "will always have a seat at the table" in governor's office decisions.
"Both of these are incredibly important to ensuring that veterans and military families are at the table, at the highest level of government and making decisions that affect our entire commonwealth," he said. "Seniors are one of the fastest growing populations in the commonwealth, they need a seat at the table."
