Dartmouth teachers, administration hopeful for contract settlements

DARTMOUTH — Looking to draw attention to contract negotiations, some 50 teachers dressed in black turned out for Monday’s School Committee meeting, some wearing tags with “SETTLE NOW” printed on them.

Committee chair Shannon Jenkins opened discussion to items not listed on the evening’s meeting agenda for public comment until 6:45 p.m., allowing about 10 minutes, although only the Dartmouth Educators Association president took to the podium.

Renee Vieira, DEA president, announced teacher assistant and secretary contracts have been ratified, while the nurses contract is close to ratification. All three took a little over a year, she said.

“We’ve made great strides and both sides seem to be pleased,” she said.
