Former Hampshire College official: No flag at Trump Tower, yet outrage over college's decisions

AMHERST -- A former Hampshire College Board of Trustees chairman is calling out President-elect Donald Trump for not flying the American flag at Trump Tower after the college endured heavy criticism for temporarily removing its flag.

Sigmund J. Roos wrote a letter to the editor published by the New York Times in response to the newspaper's Nov. 28 story covering the Hampshire College flag controversy.

Roos described the school's decisions about the flag as a private organization as "entirely its own province," later adding: "Certainly, Donald Trump retains his prerogative not to fly the flag on Trump Tower. But those who live in glass towers should not throw stones."

Many believe Trump made an oblique reference to the Hampshire College controversy -- which involved students burning the flag in the wake of his election -- in a Nov. 29 tweet.
