Pension board director gets compensation boosted to nearly $540G

The director of the state pension fund is getting a $35,000 pay bump — again — thanks to a vote by the board that oversees the fund, pushing his total pay, all benefits included, to nearly $540,000.

The increase is the third in as many years for Michael Trotsky, who saw his salary bumped by $65,000 in 2014 and $35,000 last year following votes by the Pension Reserves Investment Management board.

Retroactive to Dec. 1, his base salary now sits at $430,000. But with a $159,625 bonus, his total compensation for 2016 will be $539,625, according to a PRIM spokesman.

The board said the increase puts Trotsky at “the median for his peers running comparable-sized public funds,” as determined by an independent consultant.
