Boston-area workers to push for 15 minimum wage

BOSTON (AP) -- Boston-area workers will be joining others around the nation in calling for a $15 an hour minimum wage.

Events are planned for Tuesday in Central Square in Cambridge, at Logan International Airport and at the Statehouse. It's all part of what is being called a National Day of Action to Fight for $15.

The group Raise Up Massachusetts says community, religious and labor leaders will join low-paid workers in pushing for the higher minimum wage.

The state's minimum wage is among the highest in the U.S. and is scheduled to rise from $10 to $11 an hour on Jan. 1, completing a three-step increase approved by the Legislature in 2014.
