Bay State Dems start effort to draft Kerry for governor

A group of Bay State Democrats is trying to draft Secretary of State John F. Kerry for a gubernatorial run in 2018, saying he has the resume and “existing organization” from his days as a U.S. senator to mount a run against Gov. Charlie Baker.

The group, which created the Twitter handle @KerryforGov, is led by Darlene Bryskiewicz, a Democratic activist and member of the Chicopee Democratic City Committee. She emphasizes that the group is not connected to Kerry, but said she hopes to convince the Beacon Hill pol that he is “uniquely positioned to defeat Baker.”

The idea, top Democrats say, is highly unlikely.

“You better have the powers of selective service ... I’d be shocked if he did this,” said former Newton U.S. Rep. Barney Frank. “I don’t think John Kerry wants to do this after the career he’s had.”
