Northborough, Southborough seeking consultant for solar energy projects

NORTHBOROUGH — School officials in Northborough and Southborough will solicit applications next month from energy consultants interested in working on solar energy projects in the two towns.

The communities, which share a combined school district, are collaborating to study suitable locations to install solar arrays on school property. They are preparing to issue a request in April for qualifications from solar energy consultants, who will evaluate siting options and determine the feasibility of mounting a solar project.

The towns temporarily placed the initiative on hold after a similar request late last year didn’t yield enough qualified applicants, Superintendent Christine Johnson said. Working through the school district, the two towns have revised the language of their request and are preparing to solicit consultants again next month, Johnson said.

“We’re hoping that if we’re able to sit with both towns to review this and make sure we’re again collaborating and we’re in partnership moving forward, the school district will continue to take the initiative and we’ll release the second (request for qualifications) around April 6,” she said.
