PLYMOUTH A second upper-level employee at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station failed a test last week measuring use of alcohol or other drugs.
A supervisor in Pilgrim's security department, returning to the job Friday after an extended leave, failed a Breathalyzer test for blood-alcohol levels on the way back in the door. Earlier in the week, a licensed reactor operator tested positive for marijuana.
Both employees are now serving suspensions of at least 14 days and must undergo evaluation for substance abuse by a licensed physician. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission requires that Entergy, the plants owner-operator, turn over all medical documents related to the substance abuse evaluations and report whether the company has judged the individuals capable of returning to the job.
If they are deemed fit to return, they will be more closely monitored for drug and alcohol abuse.
