Showdown looms over abortion $$
Tuesday, August 4, 2015

An anti-abortion group
remains under a court order blocking the release of more
secret recordings of Planned Parenthood executives, after a San Francisco judge extended the ban yesterday, while a Republican-backed effort to defund the abortion provider fell seven votes short in the Senate — setting the stage for a potential government shutdown this fall.

Prior to the vote, Cardinal Sean O’Malley called on senators to withhold federal dollars from the “nation’s largest abortion network.”

“A vote to defund (Planned Parenthood) is a vote to defund cancer screenings & birth control & basic health care for millions of women,” Warren tweeted.
“Women have lived through a world where backward-looking ideologues tried to interfere in basic health decisions, & we’re not going back.”

The Bay State’s U.S. Sen. Edward Markey also weighed in on Twitter, posting a picture highlighting that “one in five women receives care from Planned Parenthood in her lifetime,” with the caption, “Fact: #GOP wants to shut down the federal govt to block funding for women’s healthcare. #StandwithPP.”
