USOC turns attention to other cities
Sunday, August 2, 2015
Bob McGovern

The U.S. Olympic Committee is reaching out to San Francisco, Washington and Los Angeles in a bid to keep the 2024 Olympic dream alive in America, and Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh — who on Monday refused to sign the host contract — said he wants the games stateside, even if they’re not in the Hub.

“A week later it’s to the point where as a city we’re going to move on, and we’re going to take some of the ideas out of it and move forward,” Walsh told the Herald yesterday. “I said all along from the beginning that I would love to see the Olympics come back to the United States of America, and if they’re able to pull it off, good luck to them.”

USOC chairman Larry Probst said a decision will be made by the end of August on which of the three cities will replace Boston as the American contender for the 2024 bid. The winner will run against Paris, Rome, Hamburg, Germany and others who are weighing bids.

Walsh said he had no favorites among the American cities
that could potentially be in the running.

I suspect LA and San Francisco are out of the running - think about water in California.

Would any US city, or any city anywhere in the world, willingly seek this nightmare?

The IOC should spend whatever it takes to bring what's left of the 2004 Athens Olympic facilities up to standards, and then make the birthplace of the Olympic movement it's permanent home.

The assurance that the games would be held there every four years would justify the investment in infrastructure and it might prove to be a much needed kick in the ass for the Greek economy.

But of course, that would prevent the corrupt assholes of the IOC from raking in bribes every four years, imo their reason for being.
