EW is getting out in front on this issue: http://www.boston.com/Boston/politicalintelligence/2012/03/warren-tells-gay-newspaper-that-obama-should-evolve-and-support-gay-marriage/2mgABuuElrpKXMCM82g99I/index.html
Warrens comments came in response to a question that referenced Obamas previous statements that he was evolving in his stance on gay marriage. Warren, according to the Blade, chuckled as she delivered her response. Obama has been an opponent of gay marriage, but has courted gay and lesbian supporters with hints that he may reconsider his stance.
Warren, a Harvard Law School professor and consumer advocate, is the leading Democrat trying to unseat Republican US Senator Scott Brown.
In her interview with the Blade, Warren offered limited praise for Browns support in repealing the militarys ban on gays and lesbians serving openly in the military. She told the newspaper that she would be a more consistent advocate in supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues...

Myself, I wish he would stick his neck out a bit more, but if he wins in November with at least part of a congressional majority perhaps we'll see things change somewhat in this as well as other areas.

(135,425 posts)Like everything else, he'll have to weigh the issues, look at his lead, look at the voter snapshot, and make his call. If he's so far out in front he can't be caught, he'll evolve sooner. If it's a horse race up to November, we'll hear the evolution in his Inaugural Address.
It's a clever positioning by EW--she is seen as "pushing" Obama and that's good for her, even though it is entirely likely that this positioning is happening with some element of WH coordination, if not advice and consent. She needs to get ahead of Scott Brown on this issue, which isn't all that hard to do.
