Mass. casino licensure timeline pushed back in metro Boston and the SE

BOSTON — The casino licensure timeline is getting pushed back in metro Boston and southeastern Massachusetts.

The state Gaming Commission met Thursday and took actions that will likely delay the awarding of casino licenses in Greater Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts to at least August 2014 and February 2015, respectively

The commission decided Thursday to delay the second-phase application deadline for commercial casino proposals in southeastern Massachusetts to at least September.

Chairman Stephen Crosby said commissioners will likely decide the exact deadline at its next meeting, when it will also likely vote on whether to waive the $500 million minimum investment requirement in an effort to encourage more applications. Such a move will push the license award date back to at least February 2015.
