If I have to drive anywhere, I leave at the crack of dawn, hopefully get thru the commuter mess before the worst of it starts. Visit for a while and leave early so I get home before the 'after work' crowd is hell bent to get home. Got to love this state!

I don't understand why people are terrified of traffic in Rome, or Tehran, or Hong Kong...it's really no worse than Boston, and I have the experience to say that decisively!

been that way, too.

Back in the early 70s I had reason to make weekly trips out to Boston for a few months...the South End. It was seriously scary even then.

I live in a rural area in the Hilltowns now, and every so often have to make a trip into the "big city" (Westfield). Insane. I never feel better until I'm headed the other way, back to my woods and their dirt roads. The drivers are still sort of crazy out here, but at least there are fewer of them.

There was no Zakim Bridge or "Tip" Tunnel back then; the drivers were depressed and the Central Artery wasn't!

I will say, if you can drive in Boston, Rome is like a walk in the park!
