WTF is wrong with people? And why no cameras up in that joint? They cleaned it up, but damn! That's a revenue-generating tourist attraction!
Sometime before 8 a.m. Tuesday, someone jumped into the enclosure around the waterfront landmark and spray painted LIES on the rock where 1620 is carved.
The granite walls of the enclosure were also vandalized.
Someone drew what appeared to be an obscene figure on one wall and the phrases Movement 32 and For A Drug Filled World on the others. The A was made to look like an anarchist symbol....

(1,340 posts)It is an unspoken truth that the tourist attraction is not the actual place
the Pilgrims disembarked -- hence the "LIES" graffiti, I assume.
I live in MA too. A friend of mine who lived in Plymouth and myself drove by
"the rock" many years ago. I laughed because I found it funny that tourists
came to see a rock (symbolic representative) and a boat (replica). I once
made the trip to the "four corners" spot way out in NM/CO/UT/AZ, which
makes me just as dumb because it is literally in the middle of nowhere --
just a bronze surveyors disk planted in the empty desert ground (derp!)
Still, it is pretty dumb to vandalize the poor thing -- lonely, little rock sittin'
out in front of the seawall.
Yup, Drugs. Lots-a drugs.

(8,159 posts)I could stand in two states at once or 4 if feet positioned right.
Don't know what's there now but in 62 there was nothing but beautiful countryside.

(14,324 posts)Pilgrim Spring, Provencetown and perhaps most interestingly, First Encounter beach where the first battle took place when the Nauset tribe -alarmed that these (latest) white visitors were stealing their food caches- and tried to scare them off with force...
(And, by the way, I found 4 Corners pretty interesting, and to the dozens and dozens of tribal people selling food, water, and jewelry there, having that tourist attraction has probably been very worthwhile for their livlihood.)

(135,425 posts)The tourists also like to hit the Plantation, where they've added a Wampanoag section. The Wampanoags don't do the "thee" and "thou" shit that the actors on the Pilgrim side affect, but they do explain some of the basics of life back in the day.

(135,425 posts)I am surprised they have no surveillance of the area. They surely want to fix that.
Now they think the perp was the same nitwit who vandalized a daycare center.
Police are investigating possible links between vandalism earlier this week at Plymouth Rock and graffiti scrawled elsewhere in town.
Police said obscene figures were drawn overnight earlier this week on a childcare center in the Ponds of Plymouth in South Plymouth and at the Rising Tide Charter Public School in West Plymouth.
Someone painted a similarly obscene drawing, along with the word LIES and references to drugs, overnight Monday at Plymouth Rock.
