WORCESTER - As Democratic congressman and U.S. Senate hopeful Edward Markey prepared to rally in Boston with President Barack Obama on Wednesday, news was breaking that another top Democrat is heading to Massachusetts to campaign on his behalf in the state's special election.

Former President Bill Clinton will be hitting the campaign trail in Central Massachusetts this weekend, Democratic Party sources confirmed, as Clinton is expected to be joined by U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and U.S. Rep. James McGovern, D-Worcester.

The Markey campaign wouldn't confirm or deny the reports on Wednesday, but other Democrats confirmed the appearance, which comes as the national Democratic Party pulls out all the stops to prevent Republican Gabriel Gomez from defeating the longtime congressman.
