Trump won 69.2% of the vote in 2024 in the county.

Maybe they should consider that as being a reason nobody wants to live there or move there?

I'm in a pretty much 50-50 area of PA and could never handle living in a place with more MAGA people than already exist here.

I left western Maryland for Alaska shortly after getting my B.A. from Frostburg State in 1976.

MAGA runs deep there. But the region is so depressed economically that they have to resort to such $20k enticements in their continuing effort to survive.

However, given the economic realities, public assistance is prevalent and Medicaid is essential health care for most.

I still love my hometown and the people who live there. But I can't live there with its high cost of living, low information voters, and being economically depressed.

Western Maryland is more aligned with West Virginia than the Maryland most people imagine. It is the northern limit of Appalachia, with all of its problems. As such, it will stick with Trump, until it touches public assistance and health care. The folks there have little else to rely upon, and will revolt enmass if their benefits are tinkered with.
