Debate over how to grow Baltimore County Council on November ballot

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. — For the first time, there's an opportunity to expand the Baltimore County Council.

Seven people have sat on the council since the 1950s, while the population has nearly tripled in that time. Most would agree it's time to expand, but by how much is under debate.

"This is an unprecedented opportunity for Baltimore County," said Baltimore Council Councilmember Pat Young, D-District 1.

Maryland senators, delegates and two county council members announced their support Wednesday for a grassroots mission called Vote 4 More 4 Baltimore County. Linda Dorsey-Walker kicked off the campaign more than two years ago. Over that time, volunteers have garnered more than 10,000 signatures, which will be turned in for verification on Monday.
