Baltimore mayor fires police commissioner, claims city needs to reduce violence 'faster'

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh fired her police commissioner on Friday, asserting that the city needs to quash violence "faster."

"I'm impatient," Pugh said during a news conference Friday morning. "We need violence reduction. We need the numbers to go down faster than they are."

Darryl DeSousa, the previous deputy police commissioner, stood beside Pugh, as she announced that he will take over for current commissioner Kevin Davis.

" (Davis) worked hard, but I'm looking for new…ways to change what we're seeing here every day," said the 67-year-old Democratic mayor, who was elected in 2016. "I need my police department to give me creative ideas."
