(formerly) missing women stranded, survived -15 overnight in car after running out of gas

The two Midcoast women who went missing Tuesday had run out of gas and were stranded in their vehicle on a snow-packed road when they were found Sunday by Game Warden Brad Richard.

The search for Kimberly Pushard, 51, and Angela Bussell, 50, ended five nights after they left home when the two were found near Nicatous Lake in Hancock County Sunday afternoon.

The women are both safe and healthy, but one more night in the cold could have put their lives in jeopardy, said Lt. Dan Menard with the Warden Service Office.

“They only saw that one day in those extremely cold temperatures,” said Menard, who said Pushard’s 2012 Jeep Compass ran out of gas on Saturday. “Had they run out of gas the first day, it might have been a different story.”

2. This is why I NEVER let my tank go below half full.

ESPECIALLY in winter, I ALWAYS keep it at least half full. As ret5hd's father observed, it doesn't cost any more to run your car on the top half of the gasoline tank than it does on the bottom half. Words of wisdom if ever there were any. Also, it's not good for your engine if it has to suck up that last little bit of gasoline out of the very bottom of the tank, along with all the other stuff that collects down there.

4. They had filled the tank on Wednesday, didn't run out until Saturday

They got lost, then got stuck after they went off a remote logging road.

One of the women is someone I see around town.
