Saw this in the sidebar to a Sun Journal editorial, "Maine must expand access to dental care."

"On Wednesday, March 7, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce will host a public panel presentation titled "The Economics of the Lack of Dental Care." The event begins at 10:30 a.m. and will be held at the Augusta Civic Center.

"The presention, which is scheduled to last until noon, will focus on how the lack of access to dental care affects businesses and Maine's economy. There is no charge to attend."

2. The School Lunch Act of 1946

Gen. George C. Marshall basically wrote this legislation and definitely lobby his brass off for it. It was the result of our getting a good look at our changed immigrant population - and the farmboys from the midwest. About 40% of the initial wave of draftees were rejected due mostly to poor vision and bad dental. An Army must be able to see and swallow energy.

In the development stages (0- 18) our national was clearly under or poorly fed.

This is why we have the School Lunch program.

3. Teeth here have gotten worse since Stupid made a passport necessary

for travel down to Mexico. Both sides of the streets across the bridges into Ciudad Juarez were lined with dentists who did a huge business with Americans too poor to afford dentistry here. People here swore by their Mexican dentists who did good work preserving dental health.

However, the money that extended to a 4 hour drive to Juarez didn't also extend to a $100+ passport, so they're largely stuck. If it's infected and really hurts, they pay to get it pulled. Nobody can afford fillings, let alone root canals and crowns.

This is just one more horrible effect Stupid had on this country.
