Jennifer Moore says Judd would be a good candidate, Mongiardo says she is too liberal for Kentucky. I think the fact that they chose to interview Moore and Mongiardo as representatives of KY democrats is illustrative of how weak and unorganized the state level party is. There really aren't any stand-out candidates who are obvious choices to run against McConnell.
As for Ashely Judd, I think she is smart and would make a good senator but I don't know if she can win. I do agree that she needs to decide one way or another so things can get moving.

(106,336 posts)I'm not from KY, but any state that elects Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell against whatever Democrat they've run in the past, ought to be willing to take a risk on a very intelligent, well known, well liked candidate, it seems to me. Hell, the name recognition alone may well give her the benefit over any other possible Dem candidate.

(1,754 posts)I agree that her name recognition is a big advantage and she seems very likeable. I hope she runs, but if she doesn't, it would be better to know sooner rather than later.

(4,069 posts)Ashley Judd is people, no fancy airs, and seems like a smart lady.
I know her a bit , running a restaurant in Lexington.
Why not? Better than the Freak show we have sent to Washington. I wanted to kick Rand Paul's ass for asshole statements made about Hillary. Carpetbagger

(10,775 posts)Jennifer Moore? Mongiardo? First thing we need to do is get an organized DEMOCRATIC PARTY in Kentucky. There is no organized Democratic Party in KY. We have no GOTV in this state. I say bring on Ashley Judd. Ky Democrats are never going to get up and fight. I don't know if they are just blue dogs, DINOS or or just plain old-fashioned lazy. Ky Dems are like Harry Reid. They have NO SPINE.
Does anyone know when the declare deadline date is?
And had you heard that Ashley and hubby are getting a divorce? I live in KY and that came over the local TV about a week ago.
And right here on DU a couple days ago, I read where Mitch is floating a balloon to KY farmers about growing Hemp. Did you all see that? Now that is a real switch for Mitch. I wonder which came first? His Hemp balloon or the news of his popularity?
Bottom line, I hope Ashley runs.

(1,754 posts)I don't think the deadline is until November. Seems like it would make sense to declare early and use the time to build support, but I'm no campaign strategist so who knows?
I did hear about the divorce, don't really know how it will affect the possible senate run.
As for the hemp thing, Rand Paul has been a proponent of hemp legalization for some time and I think this is blatant pandering to try to ingratiate himself with the teabaggers. I guess the recent poll results haven't been to his liking.

(10,775 posts)... my sister married this dude one time (she's an aerospace engineer), and he wanted her to give up her career and stay at home and be a trophy wife. Oops... that didn't last long. You don't tell sissy she's going to sit at home and cook and clean all day long and have to ask when she can come and go all the time. Anyway, my theory is that they will settle the divorce amicably, since they have no children, and be done with it soon. She may be moving back to KY as we speak. Even though she is a KY native, she has to reestablish residency. Heck, she may already be reestablished here for all we know. But you know, it's a big move for her. She couldn't make all those movies anymore. She has been around the world a few times though and does look at things globally. I so hope she runs and clobbers Mitch once and for all. THEN, maybe we can work on George Clooney to come back too! And run Rand Paul out of town!!!! I'm full of high hopes, I tell you.
Go Big Blue... game at 6PM Est. Ashley might be there!

(4,069 posts)Pandering to the right got the Blue Dog Ben Chandler defeated. A shame, I like him personally, and had voted for him in all of his runs for office. Albeit with nose held for a while. So we have John Yarmuth as the only Democratic Rep in Congress. He is the real deal but I don't know if he could win statewide.
Too many crooks still in the party with power.
We will work hard when Mitchie's sorry ass comes up in '14.
