On Monday, the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas governor Laura Kelly announced plans to build a new stadium for the team along with a new headquarters and training facility at two locations in Kansas.
The $3 billion stadium will be built in Wyandotte County reportedly just west of Kansas Speedway while the teams headquarters will be located in Olathe. Both sites will be part of mixed-use developments that include entertainment, dining, shopping, office, hotel and residential components.

TV deals, betting, advertising, merchandise, licensing rights for video games etc. even ticket revenue is only partially the local team.
But deals like this cut operating costs which put extra money on owners pockets only.
Benefits the billionaire class and not the millionaire class

We need this, this old, stodgy state needed to be pushed.

(4,386 posts)I'm a lifelong resident at age 62 and I've always wanted to have a top-level pro franchise of some kind.
Who knows, maybe the Royals will make a similar move.

(14,972 posts)All we got for it is two losing teams and a tax bill from subsidizing the team owners, plus stadium seats that only the wealthiest among us can afford to sit in.
Guess what? Part one may not come true for you. But the second and third parts will.
That's why voters in several cities have vetoed tax subsidies for owners to buy or renovate stadiums. Good luck. I'm glad they ain't wanting to move to N.J.
