https://archive.is/mNxIeWICHITA, Kan. (AP) — When American Eagle Flight 5342 took off from Wichita, the Midwest city with a proud aviation history was glowing from a big moment.
It had just hosted the next generation of Olympic hopefuls at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, the kind of major sporting event that leaders of the largest city in Kansas had envisioned when they opened a 15,000-seat arena in 2010. For Wichita, which once built many of the nation’s aircraft, the skating showcase was another way of putting the community in America’s heartland on a larger stage.
Then came the horror of learning the flight never made it.
“We were so proud to see these high-level athletes, their families, their friends, fans, coming to our community and sharing their skills and talents so that the whole world could see,” Mayor Lily Wu said. “To end it with this type of tragedy just truly breaks my heart.”
The midair collision Wednesday night between the plane and an Army helicopter in Washington, D.C., has left Wichita grieving. The worst U.S. air disaster in a generation killed 67 people, including young figure skaters who had attended a national development camp in Wichita following the championships. No one survived.

(13,520 posts)Donald Trump - and his cadre of evil clowns - are pure scum ... But that doesn't stop the fact that he had virtually nothing to do with what amounts to a tragic, tragic accident. (with all the elements and precursors in effect well before The Donald took office)
It just simply isn't right to 'Sandyhook' this incident.

(13,520 posts)this forum is titled 'Kansas' ... Read the OP (again if necessary) There are a lot of people hurting there right now. And using their tragedy and grief for your tawdry ends (ala Sandyhook, or the recent natural disasters) - is nothing I will ever be able to stand behind. (no matter whose ox is being gored)
And then there's the fact that the assignment of blame is actually false - which lends additional reason ...
To the no go territory.
But thanks.

(4,330 posts)But he made it about him when he went on TV and blamed it on Joe, Obama and DEI before he had the facts. So yes he responsible and don't ignore the fact that his dummy did bully the head of the FFA to resign.

(13,520 posts)He is deserving of all the blame you want to heap on him for his ignorant and intemperate remarks. Go ahead and have at it! And you can kick him about firings and resignations as well.
But, the intellectual dishonesty (and the limits of my support) come around when you try to make this a consequence of the removal of an agency head. Simply not true. That removal or absence didn't have the slightest impact on the tragedy that unfolded that night. All practices pointed to were in place and part of long standing operation well before ... And you (and everyone else with a modicum of sense, and a degree of honesty about it) knows it.
