Former Planned Parenthood exec Cecile Richards in Des Moines: Marching isn't enough. Vote.

Cecile Richards said she believes Republican efforts to roll back access to safe and legal abortion will motivate women in Iowa and across the country to vote in November.

Richards, the former president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, spoke at the Polk County Democratic Party's annual women's event Thursday in downtown Des Moines.

"If there’s one thing these last 18 months have taught us, it’s never doubt the power of a room of fired up women to change the direction of the country," she said to a crowd of more than 200 people — mostly women.

Her appearance followed President Donald Trump's nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court to replace retiring justice Anthony Kennedy earlier this week.
