Iowa courts electronic filing system down, paper filings accepted in all 99 counties

DES MOINES — Iowa courts will temporarily accept paper court filings after the statewide electronic document management system crashed Tuesday.

The Iowa Supreme Court ordered clerks in all 99 counties to accept paper filings until the computer system has been repaired.

Steve Davis, Iowa judicial branch communications director, said Tuesday the system was up and down throughout the day Monday and completely went down Tuesday regarding the ability to electronically download or open existing files or file new court documents.

Davis said security patches were made Friday that “caused or exacerbated” performance problems. The system is regularly backed up and technicians are using that information to restore the system to its prior condition before changes were made on Friday.
