State Rep. Todd Prichard officially announces run for governor

State Rep. Todd Prichard officially kicked off his gubernatorial campaign Tuesday after announcing in March that he was considering a run.

Prichard, a Democrat from Charles City, launched a week-long tour of the state beginning with a kickoff event in his hometown where he accused the current Republican administration of abandoning working class and rural Iowans.

“For years we’ve watched now as the Branstad and Reynolds administration has taken the side of big corporations and the wealthy and leaving Iowa’s working families and people behind," he said in Charles City. "And nowhere is this more evident and more deeply felt than in small towns like Charles City and rural areas and working class neighborhoods across the state. In so many ways this has become the forgotten Iowa. And I know the forgotten Iowa, because it’s where I’m from.”

Prichard, 42, is a three-term state representative, an Army and Iraq War veteran and a former county prosecutor.
