Steve King travels the world on taxpayers' dime
...
The taxpayers have spent nearly $118,000 for his trips over the past four years, according to disclosures published in the Congressional Record. His travel has included more than 20 countries, mostly in Europe and the Middle East. Six of those trips cost taxpayers more than $10,000, including two that cost more than $20,000.
Most recently, King said he traveled to Egypt and met with President Abdel Fattah e-Sisi. That trips cost has not yet been disclosed through the
Congressional Record.
Other Iowans in the House have spent a fraction of that total on official foreign travel. Congressman Dave Loebsack hasnt reported a trip since 2013. Congressman David Young spent about $1,800 on an official trip to Austria, Switzerland and Portugal with the House Appropriations Committee. Congressman Rod Blum and Sen. Chuck Grassley have reported no official foreign trips during the period.
Sen. Joni Ernst, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has been on seven official overseas trips during her first term in office. Four of those trips involved visiting overseas troops; she also attended three conferences related to national security. Total costs of nearly $50,000 were reported by the Congressional Record for those trips.
