Security increased at Decorah schools.
All because someone got stupid;
DECORAH, Iowa (KCRG-TV9 News)- A parent's email response to a sexual education program for 4th graders led Decorah Police and the Decorah School District to increase security today. Superintendent Mike Haluska tells KCRG-TV9 the parent is unhappy they weren't notified about the human sexuality video and materials and felt they should have been notified in advance.
Haluska says the email the parent sent to the district used several phrases that could be interpreted as dangerous, including "declaring war on the Decorah School District." As a result of the email, extra officers were put on patrol and outdoor activities at the elementary school were cancelled. The parent was also served a no trespass order.
Tensions over the email and the extra security convinced many parents to leave their children at home today. The district says 26% of the student body wasn't in class.
The superintendent says elementary students are given a letter to take home to their parents about the class. Information is also in the elementary school's newsletter. Haluska says it seems neither piece of information made it to the parent. He says the materials are distributed by the Area Education Agency and the video students watch in class is produced by the Disney Company.
I hope that idiot is brought up on charges. And has to pay for all the extra security.
